The Cosmos Breathes Through a Porous Body
2026
Inspired by Daoist thought and the Huangdi Neijing, The Cosmos Breathes Through a Porous Body sculpts vertebrae with the texture of Taihu rock, presenting a flowing landscape of science-fictional imagery through a 360-degree rotating camera motion. Space architecture, satellite components, copper wire, jade panels, and energy beams thread through a framework composed of twelve "Taihu vertebrae." The generative qi drifting through the cosmos is at once spiritual energy and physical force—dissolving the metaphysical barrier between the human body and all things, and constructing a new system of circulation.
The Cosmos Breathes Through a Porous Body
renders an "inner landscape" passage along the Kai Tak Corridor LED ceiling, transforming the generative interplay between bodily experience and the realm of the mind into a fluid, responsive space. Taking the I Ching's principle—"
when acted on, Yi penetrates forthwith to all phenomena and events under the sky"—as its point of departure, Yan uses 3D world-building to recompose conceptual models across different systems of knowing, exploring how the spirit of shanshui might offer, in the logic of images, a response to the rational intuition structuring modern visual schemas.
